Tell us about your new album do you have a release date yet? What will be your first single off the project and when can we expect a video?

My album was released 03-05-21. It’s a huge part of my life. It’s like my child, the most fulfilling thing i’ve done in my life thus far. My first single off the project is Extra and the video (Shot by Silinas Films) can be expected late Aug early September along w/ a few other videos from my singles EndZone ft Rosco P., Passion & Rock$tarXXX ft KeemInTheCut.

Where did you grow up and what was it like growing up there for you?

I was born and raised in Providence RI (Small city big dreams). I come from a two-parent household; My fathers from the Republic of Benin (Nigeria, Yoruba Tribe) a business owner and a automotive engineer, my mother a nurse from North Carolina. My parents were just teenagers when they had me, so naturally we grew up together. Beyond the doors of my household, growing up consisted of one thing, competition. My circle of friends were constantly in competition with one another: who’s the fastest, who’s the strongest, who’s the smartest, Who’s the best at this sport and that sport, etc. Everything turned into an instance to show superiority and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. We roamed the city on bikes without a care, scrounging up money along the way for egg rolls and fries.

Can you walk us through the thought-process when you started creating your album what type of vibes are we getting from the project?

When composing major projects such as D.R.E.A.M; the creative process comes down to one simple, but very difficult task, honest reflection. A lot of time was spent reflecting on my experiences throughout the day and assessing the choices I made and those that I chose not to make. I feel as an artist vulnerability is necessary to make good music. D.R.E.A.M is the product of many intimate and honest conversations with myself, which resulted in a product that cohesively blends multiple genres and elements of music together.  I truly opened myself up and put myself on full display for the whole world to see, and I’m happy the way that’s been received by the masses.

Who are the producers for this new project and do you have any features?

I produced the majority of the album myself. With supporting roles and additions from The Last Gasp Collective, Suave Lee, Danny Keyz and KeemInTheCut. With special guest features from Don Diz, Rosco P, WestShoreJabs & KeemInTheCut.

Who do feel deserves some credit and recognition that helped you on your musical journey?

I think 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson), Jay Jackson (The Last Gasp Collective), Aikeem Mutakallim, Don Diz & the whole Himmy Entertainment group, as well as Rosco P. have helped me out tremendously throughout my journey. Always picking up my calls, giving me ways of maneuvering through the industry, helping me with my sound, craft, features and numerous tips on engineering.

What sparked your interest to study to be a biochemist? is that something you still have a interest in and where did you go to study and graduate from?

I was always intrigued by the nomenclature and function of the world of Biology and Chemistry. It’s broadened my mind a great deal, but to be honest i’m not as interested in it like I once was. I simply view it as a stepping stone to something greater. I studied and graduated from Central Michigan University located in Mount Pleasant MI.

What else should our readers know about you?

I am the first-born male in America in my family on my father’s side. I was born left-handed. Attended catholic school from 1st-8th grade. Have drowned before (Not on my parents watch). I skateboard, occasionally participate in parkour and into fashion, I started a company called M.O.T.L.A.E.S with a few friends from college in 2014 and it has been expanding ever since.

How do you get over writers block if you ever had that experience ?

Writers block is a pain, feels like a slow process when experiencing it. I typically cut myself off from all forms of media, indulge in the spirits and have some honest conversations with myself. If that doesn’t work, a change of scenery can do the trick, an island maybe a beach any place tropical really. Quality time with family and friends is also some that helps the creative process for me.

How has your perspective on music evolved over time?

I first started taking music seriously in 2014, it was unbelievably overwhelming. Recording, clipping ,reverb, compression, chord progressions, melodies, BPM etc. I just wanted to make music, but I was struggling with how to put it all together and understanding it. These days are different, my ears are different. Music has just become part of my everyday routine in some way or another. I just know more about sounds and more importantly the sound I’m going for and how to manage it in a way it sounds loud & clear.

What are some of the challenges you go through as an artists that you wish to overcome?

Challenges…. Staying organized and prepared.

What's next for you, and how can our readers further follow your work? (social media handles)

I plan on expanding without limitations! Everything from major features, sold out shows, films, fashion shows, and events.  If everything goes as planned there will also be an EP before year end. I also have Pre-orders for limited edition signed D.R.E.A.M vinyls that are live on https://www.motlaes.com/dreamvinylbyterick right now. Delivery for the preorders will be late September early October 2021.You can follow me on IG & Twitter https://www.instagram.com/waveking_terick/  https://twitter.com/TerickTRick
