Veana Marie Is Making Her Musical Come Back

Veana Marie was born and raised in Massachusetts. She started really early on singing in church and writing poetry. She studied music at Barnstable Highschool and was then accepted to Berklee School of music. Finding that she wanted to be more hands on, Veana left Berklee and started working for a small local record label out of Boston. she recorded and wrote music and scouted for talented musicians, and singers. Putting her music career on hold to have a family, Veana never stopped writing so she finished and released her first mixtape entitled The Heat is Calling in 2012.

December 2014 Veana released a compilation album entitled In My Element and featured some new material and re masters of a few songs from The Heat Is Calling. In 2016 Veana released 2 free singles about the epidemic on drug addiction called Dying Slow and issues of police brutality and bullying with Scarlett Letter. Another mixtape was released in August 2017 entitled All A Masquerade and had guest artists and producers contributing their talents from all over the country.

Veana is also collaborating with Eterniti Everlasting on a new project entitled EnV en•vy. Release date TBA August of 2018, Veana dropped her SECOND original Mixtape entitled Straight Outta These Lips, which was RE RELEASED on Dat Piff In October 2019 and in November 2018 she released her FIRST OFFICIAL EP Vee by Veana Marie available on all major media streaming sites.

Where did you grow up and what was it like growing up there?

I grew up all over Massachusetts. I was a part of the foster care system from the time I was four years old until my brother and sisters were placed permanently in our aunts care. My aunt provided a sense of stability and normalcy to my life by having me be heavily involved with the church. Growing up on Cape Cod from fourth grade till graduation allowed me opportunities in the musical world.

How did you get into your music career?

I started my music career officially in 2011, where I reenlisted music as a way to cope with my life struggles. My first release speaks a lot about those troubled times, Like the death of a close friend, being homeless, and struggling with coping with domestic violence.

What was your experience like at Berklee College Of Music? What does it take to get into that type of school?

My experience at Berkelee school of music was short. I had studied music theory, harmony, and composition since I was eight and wanted to be more hands on in the music business aspect of music. I felt like I wasn’t getting what I needed from the school, even though the school is phenomenal. My time in high school was heavily focused on jazz, and I feel that the learning experience is what helped get me into the school.

How Long have you been playing the trumpet, and what was the obstacles playing that type of instrument?

I started playing the trumpet when I was eight years old, being taught at church and then taking that teaching into the school system. I played trumpet until my sophomore year in high school when I decided to focus fully on her vocal studies. I was in every available choir in high school, and also church. I've also participated in Cape Cod conservatory’s a cappella choir which performed at many local events and beyond.

How Has the Salvation Army impacted your music career?

I accredit all my primary musical teachings to the Salvation Army, even though I am no longer a practicing Christian and I have gone on record to letting people know that I am a atheist.

What is it like juggling being a mom and juggling music?

I put my music career on hold for 15 years to create a steady and firm foundation for her children. When she reentered the music business, she became a label owner so that she could control the narrative and the direction of her business and center that business around the needs in necessities of her children.

Do you have any new music coming out soon, and can we expect some visuals?

I plans to release a new project at the end of the summer and I have many collaborations with artists from All over the country. I also plans on recording my very first official music videos in 2021.

Who are your musical influences, and who would you love to go on tour with?

My musical influences vary because I have very eclectic tastes. I listens to every form of music but in the last 10 years I have been heavily influenced by more local talents, not really paying any mind to the main stream.

What is your favorite positive quote that keeps you motivated?

I just make music - Vee

They call you the "hook queen" what is the story behind that name?

I got the title of my queen by one of her former artists on my former label spacebound productions because of how quickly and easily I could come up with a hook and Taylor it to the artist not just my likes. It’s important to me to be viewed as a multifaceted writer.
