Singer-songwriter Daley has announced the release of his anticipated new album, STRANGE NATURE. The 10-track project will arrive on Friday, September 18, 2026, and features collaborations with Marsha Ambrosius, Robert Glasper, Keyon Harrold, and Yussef Dayes.
For Daley, the album's title reflects the unpredictable nature of life and the experiences that shaped the project. “Naming the album ‘Strange Nature’ was an acknowledgment for me that life does not always unfold in ways we can predict, hope or expect,” Daley shared. He explained that while he initially wanted the album to represent growth and optimism, the process also included uncertainty, self-doubt, sadness, and circumstances outside of his control.
“The strange isn’t good or bad, it’s equal parts beautiful and ugly,” he added, explaining that accepting the things we may not always understand can allow us to continue learning and growing.
Earlier this spring, Daley returned to the music scene with “LAVENDER,” his first official release since 2018. Written and produced by Daley alongside UK producer Swindle, the song explores intimacy, escapism, and emotional surrender through orchestral strings, percussion, jazz-influenced guitar chords by Tom Ford, and layered vocals.
Daley followed “LAVENDER” with “SLIDE,” a summer R&B track combining an upbeat groove with orchestral strings and his signature vocals. The song quickly became a fan favorite, capturing the energy of sunny days, BBQs, dancing, and spending time with friends and family.
Among the album's more personal moments is “EASY,” a breakup song inspired by the deterioration of a relationship.
“I usually write songs that bring people together, but sometimes a song can also help you realize when it’s time to let go,” Daley shared.
He describes the track as a “compassionately cut-throat” breakup song that came from unresolved disagreements and resentment within a relationship where love still existed. Unable to say what he was feeling directly, Daley went into the studio and put those emotions into the song.
“EASY” was written in London with Ryan Ashley, with piano by Darryl Woodson and strings by Izzi Dunn and Neil Waters.
The emotional journey behind the song reflects the larger process of creating STRANGE NATURE. Daley says the album took several unexpected turns due to the pandemic, the loss of his father, and changes within the music industry that have made things increasingly difficult for independent artists.
Through it all, he continued writing and creating music rooted in shared emotions and experiences.
Another standout collaboration is “COMPASS,” featuring multi-Grammy-winning musician Robert Glasper.
Daley describes the song as being about finding your way back to someone despite emotional or physical distance and eventually realizing that the peace, trust, and safety you were searching for had been there all along.
Daley and Glasper created the track together, beginning with Glasper at the piano before Daley developed melodies that eventually became the song's lyrical themes. Aliyah Niambi and Justin Tyson also contributed to the collaboration.
Reflecting on the entire project, Daley says STRANGE NATURE took him through heartbreak, temptation, manifestation, and ultimately finding a way to make sense of those experiences.
“In more difficult moments I was uplifted by friends, fans and supporters who made sure to let me know that what I have to contribute is needed, and I truly feel this spurred me on to produce the best album I have ever made,” he shared.
Daley will also embark on a 27-city U.S. tour beginning September 16 in St. Louis, Missouri, just two days before the album's release.
